The 2012 wedding season is here, and what a great start it was!! Nikki and Ken were married at the Moffatt-Ladd House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Saturday. It may still be spring, but with the sun and sea breeze, it felt more like a perfect summer day. Thanks to the early spring this year the gardens at the house were in full bloom, and the grass was lush and green. We really lucked out.
Their intimate ceremony was officiated by Jo Maden, a ‘LifeCycle Celebrant’. I have never had the opportunity to attend a wedding officiated by a ‘Celebrant’, and I was so impressed with the personal nature of Nikki and Ken’s wedding ceremony. The ceremony detailed their journey as a couple up until that very moment. It gave everyone in attendance a clear understanding of the path they had taken together to get to that point, and their goals for their future together as a couple. If you’re in the process of planning your own wedding and are looking for a uniquely personalized wedding ceremony, I cannot speak more highly of Jo and her approach to weddings.
After the beautiful ceremony everyone strolled over to the nearby Sheraton for a cocktail hour on the deck, and the reception in the Harbor’s Edge room. Several moving toasts were followed by a surprise ‘rap’ by Nikki’s sister, the Matron of Honor, Sam, and Sam’s husband, Anthony, the Best Man. Nikki had her own surprise for Ken; a groom’s cake shaped like a coffee bean. Not to be forgotten was an hilarious rendition of Boyz II Men’s ‘I’ll Make Love to You’, sung to Nikki by Ken and several members of the wedding party.
After dinner was over, DJ Scott Langlois did an excellent job getting the crowd on their feet, the dance floor was so crowded that a couple of tables were pushed aside to make room for all the dancers! What a great start to the season for me, let’s hope all of this year’s weddings are equally lovely!
Congrats Nikki and Ken, enjoy your honeymoon!
