Jenny and Brandon live on Portland’s Munjoy Hill, so having their shoot on the Eastern Promenade was a natural choice. I love this part of Portland; the views of Casco Bay are so magnificent, and the tourists that fill the Old Port on a summer day rarely wander this far so it’s blissfully quiet.
To start off we strolled down the big hill to the beaches and docks of the East End. We had thought it might rain that day, but we ended up with only clouds. Most people don’t realize that cloudy weather is best for photography; bright sun causes shadows and squinty eyes, so we really lucked out. After shooting at the beach we slowly trudged back up the hill, which is a good workout for anyone, and headed to a little park off of North Street that offers an amazing view over the city and all the way to New Hampshire’s White Mountains. We were treated to a beautiful sunset, and the clouds cleared enough so that we could see Mt. Washington! Jenny had brought along a cute ‘Save The Date’ sign, so we took some photos with it to use on the cards that they’ll be sending out soon.
Jenny and Brandon are one of my 2013 wedding couples, and they’ll be getting married in York Beach next year, where I was married ten years ago this week. Clearly they have great taste! 😉
