I don’t think I could have dreamed up a more perfect wedding day for Jenna and Matt. This sweet couple, whose engagements I shot in New York City this spring, seem to have the weather gods on their side. Newport, Rhode Island is an amazingly beautiful place (go, if you’ve never been!) regardless of weather, but on a sunny spring day the island just shimmers! With the sun bouncing off the waves, and the boats bobbing at their moorings, Newport can’t be beat for a chic, yet fun wedding site.
Jenna and Matt met at Providence College, so having their wedding ceremony at Saint Dominic Chapel on the college grounds was a perfect homecoming in more ways than one. The ceremony was officiated by Father Nicanor ‘Nic’ Austriaco, who was also Matt’s biology professor, and mentor in college. Their traditional Catholic ceremony had an unusually intimate feel thanks to the personal connections between the couple and Father Nic. Plus, the chapel itself is a lovely, light filled space great for photography!
Post wedding, we boarded the trolley for the ride back to Newport, stopping along the way to grab a few photos. We pulled into Belle Mer a few minutes before the guests arrived for cocktail hour, and as I rushed in to document the space before the doors were officially opened I was absolutely stunned by what I saw! This is one of the most beautiful reception sites I’ve had the opportunity to shoot in. The bright white space was accented by subtle blush, ivory and silver tones. The huge glass doors opening onto the lawn let in both the sea breeze, and the most dreamy early evening light. Guests were free to wander in and out; the sweeping lawn and firepit were an inviting space to socialize and relax around. When dinner service was announced the sheer white curtains surrounding the dining room were simultaneously pulled open, and guests were able to filter to their tables, while still enjoying a view of the sunset from their seats. Magnificent! Newlyweds Jenna and Matt descended the center staircase and from that moment on the party only stopped for a few heartfelt toasts. Their band, K2 had the crowd on their feet until well after the sun was set over the harbor.
Congrats again Jenna and Matt, I hope you’re having a relaxing honeymoon in Hawaii!
