Celeste and Gordon’s wedding was technically the last wedding of my summer season, before we moved into autumn last week. It’s been an amazingly beautiful year so far, with truly wonderful couples and gorgeous weather. Celeste and Gordon are no exception. Their homegrown celebration took place in York, Maine, and Celeste’s parents hosted the reception in their backyard. They literally spent the last year getting ready for this big day, and it showed! It was a detail-rich wedding, with tons of personal touches. Everything had meaning, and the property looked immaculate. From the stories I heard of excavating and moving rocks, planting grass, and gathering decor, it was a true family effort. Just what a wedding should be in my opinion.
Their ceremony was held in the center of York village at the First Parish Congregational Church, some churches are dark and difficult to shoot in, not this one! Wow, I could shoot here every weekend and not complain. After the ceremony Celeste and Gordon zipped off in the family convertible for photos, and the guests headed to the house for cocktails and passes apps by Portsmouth Catering Co., on the lawn, games, and the music of the ever-talented Maine wedding band The Waiters. This was a true southern Maine wedding, they served not only cake, but Congdon’s doughnuts, too! Anyone from the area knows and loves these doughnuts!
I’d had to admit, the weather was perfect, but you could feel the nip in the air, a sign that autumn was coming. Just a couple of weddings left to go this year and the snow will be flying sooner than we know it! Summers go SO fast in this industry, but luckily my weekends are spent among such beautiful people and surroundings!
PS I wanted to give few special shout outs to new planner Whitney Thornton, florist Beautiful Days, and the hair and make-up artists Jessica Todd and Making Faces, they were simply fabulous to work with, and I’d highly recommend them.
