Beth and Mason came to Maine for their intimate fall destination wedding with a few goals in mind; to join their families together, and to have a darn good time. From what I witnessed at Cape Elizabeth’s Inn by the Sea, they were successful on both fronts!
It goes without saying that theirs was
one of the most unique wedding ceremony I have ever witnessed; the small crowd that was gathered on the sweeping lawn to witness the vows went from laughing, to crying, to crying with laughter (me included)! Their friend, retired US Army Ranger/biker minister, Lee Bliss officiated. Lee brought a large basket full of visual aides along to accompany his words. Never in my life have I ever heard (nor will I ever hear again) the names Oprah, Tom Cruise, God, Buddha, Odin, Thor, and Aslan (the lion from Narnia) mentioned in the course of a wedding ceremony. It is also doubtful that I will I ever witness again a pitch-perfect rendition of the ‘Marwwiage’ speech from A Princess Bride in an actual wedding ceremony. “Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togethew today. Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam within a dweam. And wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you fowevah and evah.” And while it was definitely not your average wedding ceremony, it was perfect for these two.
Beth is about the most laid-back bride I’ve ever met, her only requests in terms of photos were (and this is a direct quote from an email message), “If the cake gets knocked over, make sure you get a picture of that. If I fall going down the aisle, get pictures of that so we can make a cartoon book of it. Other than that, we are going to TRY to keep it classy.” Suffice to say, this was a hell of a wedding to end the season on. Plus, it was my first wedding to have the men wearing kilts, and boy do they look handsome or what? There were a lot of heads turning at the Inn when Mason walked by in his kilt and Army dress jacket. It was quite the combination!
In all seriousness though, Beth and Mason clearly your lives have involved service and great sacrifice, but I’ve never met a happier couple and more wonderful group of friends and family. Thank you so much for having me there to document this most unique of wedding days! All my best for many happy years to come!
