Nikki and Ken’s Portsmouth, New Hampshire engagement shoot

If you’re a keen website observer you may recognize Nikki and Ken from Kelly and Mike’s wedding last month, they were in the wedding party in fact, but now it’s their turn to shine!

Nikki and Ken will be getting married next spring at the Moffatt-Ladd House in Portsmouth, NH so that was where we decided to start their engagement session. Starting out in a more private location while getting used to the idea of  ’PDA’ in front of the camera is a great way to break the ice. Most couples find the engagement shoot process a bit strange to start, but folks usually warm up quickly, and everyone ends up having a lot of fun in the end!

Some days just have great light, and yesterday was one of those lucky days. Add in an adorable couple (plus their adorable dachshund Simon!), and the quiet streets of Portsmouth, and you have the recipe for a really lovely engagement shoot! Thanks Nikki and Ken, see you in the spring!

Audrey Young - Dear Nikki and Ken,

Thank you kindly for sharing your beautiful engagement photographs. We are so happy for you. We love you dearly.

Becky and Michael’s New Harbor, Maine wedding

Becky and Michael chose the most popular wedding date of 2011 for their wedding: 9/10/11 . It’s easy to understand why they wanted that anniversary; not only is it a fun date, it is easy to remember!  And from what I’ve been told the weekend after Labor Day is typically the driest summer weekend, which is why my husband and I chose it for our own wedding nine years ago! It’s also a great weekend for a wedding in Maine because the tourist influx typically tapers off after the kids are back in school, yet it is still warm and summery. 9/10/11 was no exception; it was sunny, peaceful and a perfect day for a classic Maine wedding.

Becky is the type of bride a wedding photographer hopes for; she’s a professional event planner in addition to having a great eye for detail. Not only did everything run perfectly on time on Saturday, but every minute detail was considered. Please pardon the glut of decor shots below, I just couldn’t help myself!

Michael and Becky chose to have their ceremony at the end of the dock of The Contented Sole restaurant, which looks out over the idyllic Pemaquid Harbor. The dock sits within walking distance of Fort William Henry, which is where we started the day off with a ‘first look’ and formal photos. The restaurant has a rustic Maine charm, which was only enhanced by the candles, lanterns, flowers, and colors decorating the space. Rather than just one wedding cake, they chose to have a varied selection of cakes, followed by whoopie pies and milk later in the evening.

Many congratulations Becky and Michael, thanks for sharing your day with me and Danielle!

Richard Bonenfant - Mike’s Dad,

Only being hospitalized could keep me from attending this beautiful wedding. These photos only serve to make me envy what I missed. Please know that Sally and I are so happy for the both of you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Our Congratulations to you both and to your mother and father Becky.

Love,

Caitlin and Justin’s Portsmouth, New Hampshire engagement shoot

Fall is the busiest time of year for me, and this year is no different! I have lots of autumn weddings, and I’m starting to book up weddings for next year, so this means lots of engagement shoots in addition to the weddings already on the calendar. Caitlin and Justin are getting married next summer, and wanted their engagement photos to have a ‘summery’ look so we met up in Portsmouth on Friday and lucked out with the weather! It is getting cold at night, but Friday felt just like July, which is when I’ll be seeing them next! Thanks for a fun shoot you two!

Maggie and Mike’s Peaks Island, TEIA wedding

Maggie and Mike’s wedding was held at the Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association (TEIA) club grounds on Peaks Island this past Saturday. TEIA is so classically Maine in every way, I just love shooting there. Maggie and Mike chose to hold their ceremony on the dock, and guests were able to view it from two levels of the old clubhouse. The view of the ceremony, with Casco Bay, the islands and Portland in the distance couldn’t have gotten any more perfect.

Their wedding had a relaxed, beachy feel, and Maggie was one of the most laid-back brides that I have ever worked with. She exuded calm, and made sure to enjoy the wedding day that she had planned so long for. The beach cruiser bikes were a gift from Maggie’s sister, and bravely Maggie and Mike hopped on (even in their wedding day finery) for a short sunset ride. These two were so determined to live it up on their wedding day that they held nothing back. I just love it when couples have this sort of attitude.

Even though there is a touch of autumn in the air now, Saturday was steamy and warm; their guests gathered for hours on the wide covered porch of the club socializing and enjoying the sea-breeze and sunset. Once the sun finally went down over the bay, the music picked up and the dancing commenced.  What a night!

Thanks for sharing your wedding day with me Maggie and Mike, both Leslie and I enjoyed being there to capture every moment of it!

Cortland and Caulder – two sweet little boys

I don’t shoot a lot of family portraits, but I love them when I do, I mean how could you not love these two cuties?

I originally met Cortland and Caulder at Liz and Jeff’s wedding in July, and it was great to see their smiling faces again at their shoot in New Castle, New Hampshire.  For their session we started by getting to know each other back at their home, then we hit the beach for some fun in the sand, which was then followed up by the boys indulging in some of the biggest lollipops I’d ever seen! A great evening was had by all, I hope it shows in the photos!

Maggie Shanahan - I know you just did my wedding but can you shoot my kids next?! When I have them…September 8, 2011 – 6:52 pm

susan daley - These two childen are adorable, and the photo are perfect. What a darling family.September 8, 2011 – 2:39 pm

Anne Barr - As Cortland and Caulder’s Nana, I absolutely love these pictures. What a special treat for their parents (and everyone else) to enjoy their smiling faces! Wonderful work!September 6, 2011 – 9:06 pm

Sarah and Chris’s Kittery, Maine engagement shoot

After looking at these photos you won’t probably be surprised to find out that Sarah and Chris will be celebrating their wedding next year in Newport, Rhode Island. For those not from the east, Newport is known as the sailing capitol of the United States.  Chris and Sarah love to sail, and so for their e-shoot we took their boat ‘Whomper’ out for a little trip around Kittery Point. It was an amazingly fun time, and I really loved that their shoot was truly what they wanted, and that it reflected what they love to do together. Besides that they both look like they just stepped off the pages of a J.Crew catalog, don’t they?

After our little sail, we took their Boston Whaler over to Portsmouth to stroll around and take some more traditional, land-based photos. It was such a beautiful evening, both on the water and in town, I didn’t want it to end. Thanks to Chris and Sarah for a fun and unique shoot!

Laurie Heintz - Chris and Sarah. Awesomely beautiful pictures! Again, our congratulations to you and look forward to seeing you more and more. Russ and Laurie heintzSeptember 11, 2011 – 11:24 am
