Jamei and James were married this past Saturday at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, Maine. It was simply a perfect summer day to join together two families from two hemispheres! James is from Australia, and much of his family, and several friends made the looong journey to Maine to witness their union. Now that’s love!
It has been several years since I shot at SMCC and I really think that this location is a hidden gem on the southern Maine coast. The ceremony site sits high on an old bunker above the water, and affords an amazing unobstructed view of the islands, three lighthouses, sailboats and fishing boats passing by.
This wedding went off without a hitch, thanks to the hard work of many family and friends. It also helps that everyone from the wedding party was able to get ready right on campus, and they could then walk right to the ceremony and reception sites, no driving or parking were necessary.
Dinner was a surf and turf feast featuring lobster tails and steak, and it was put on by Reuben and his team from Blue Elephant Events, yum! Jamei had a surprise groom’s cake made with the logo of James’ favorite Australian Rules football club, ‘Collingwood’ featured on it, but no one seemed brave enough to cut into it!
After some lovely, and often hilarious toasts (James’ brother Michael even brought visual aides!) this perfect day turned into a perfect evening. The reception room at SMCC is literally steps from a wide sandy beach, and once dinner was over, guests spent most of their time outside on the patio enjoying the breeze off of the water, playing the many lawn games, and making s’mores in the outdoor fireplace. It was such a relaxing night, and since everyone was outside under the stars DJ Luke Lanigan turned the speakers around so the music flowed out the windows and onto the patio. That is until the noise complaints from the neighbors brought the cops over!
Saturday was also special thanks to a ‘Super Moon’ that rose over the ocean just after sunset. Out came the cameras to capture this beautiful sight! Hopefully a ‘Super Moon’ on your wedding, means a ‘Super Marriage’ forever. Congratulations Jamei and James!
