Inspired by the new LL Bean Signature collection ads Erin, Sam and I took to the cobblestone streets of the Old Port for their engagement shoot. Their wedding is the first on the calendar next year, and it will be held The Maine Audubon Society at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth. I’ve never shot there before, so I’m really looking forward to it.
This may come as a surprise to some, but Maine is actually quite a popular state for destination weddings, and Erin and Sam’s nuptials will be just that! Pretty much all of their guests will be coming from ‘away’, and that always makes for such a fun wedding weekend. I’ll be shooting their rehearsal dinner too, so I might just get to watch (and help!) a few guests try and crack into their first real lobster. I always love teaching people about my adopted home-state and our unique cuisine.
At least half, if not more of my weddings every year are for couples from away. A lot of people grew up summering in Maine, or went to college here and want to come back to get married. I often wonder on a summer Saturday just how many weddings are going on at the same time all around this great state. There are just so many fabulous venues: from sea side chapels, to mountaintop vistas, you just can’t go wrong with a classic Maine wedding.
